Welcome!

If you’re taking a look at this website, you may be on a search for some help, for yourself, for a friend or family member, or for one of your patients or clients. I hope the information here will help you decide whether my approaches would be a good fit.

I’m a licensed psychologist and I work with adults, doing individual psychotherapy and skill-building workshops. I have over 25 years of experience and I combine traditional talking therapy with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Energy Psychology, and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). You’ll find more about these a couple of pages farther on.

On this page you’ll find some thoughts about what might be happening with you right now and a bit of information about my background. On the next three pages, you’ll find the important stuff -- the issues and problems I can help with, the tools I use, and the philosophies and values that guide my work. On the last page, you’ll find out about contacting me, as well as information about getting started and about upcoming workshops.

If you have questions...

. . . please feel free to email or call me. My email is pat.roe@patroephd.com and my number is 303-757-1993 .

What’s Happening With You Right Now?

If you are checking out this website to look for a therapist for yourself, you’re probably doing that because something is troubling you. It might be that you’re frustrated with a situation in your life and you want some new skills for dealing with it. Or some new development has thrown you for a loop and you want some help getting back on track. Or you might be struggling with terribly deep emotional pain. Or something might be making it really hard to keep up with your day-to-day responsibilities. It might be a combination of these, or one of a million other challenges.

All of these kinds of experiences are part of the human condition, and we use all kinds of resources to cope with them. They include our own wisdom and hope, support from family and friends, our spiritual beliefs, and all the myriad forms of information available out there in the world. But perhaps right now you need an additional resource, in the form of someone trained and experienced, who will focus exclusively on you and your issues.

Especially if it’s the first time you’ve looked for counseling or psychotherapy, this can be hard. You might be a little nervous or apprehensive because you don’t really know what to expect. You might feel hesitant to talk about your personal thoughts and feelings with someone you don’t know.

I am here to work with you because I want to help. I know what it’s like to have emotional struggles and how wonderful it is to get the help you need to get past them. I know how it feels to be starting this new and unfamiliar endeavor.

I’m proposing that you and I form a partnership. You will bring all of your strengths and resources and your desire for your life to be better, and I will bring all my compassion and experience and my desire to help. I believe that if there’s a good fit between us, we can find your particular path toward the changes you want -- anywhere from gaining a few new skills to having an experience of deep healing.

My background

I’m a Denver native and got my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver. From there, I went on to get my Ph.D. in clinical psychology at George Washington University, in Washington D.C.

My doctoral internship was here in Denver at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. My work experience includes providing group therapy and clinical supervision in a psychiatric hospital, as well as individual therapy with survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse in an outpatient clinic. I have been in private practice since 1992. During much of that time I was affiliated with Maria Droste Counseling Center, where I also supervised graduate students and taught classes.

I am certified in Energy Psychology and am currently the only practicing Energy Psychology practioner in Colorado. I have completed Levels I and II of EMDR training (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
